Biography - Ross Forbes
Ross is the founder and director of Forbes Golf Design, LLC. He has over twenty years of experience in golf course design and has worked on a wide variety of golf development projects around the world.
Ross knew that he wanted to be a golf course designer as a young boy and focused his education accordingly. Upon graduating from the University of Arizona, with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree, he realized his dream by working for several golf course design firms in California. In 1992 he started his own company and slowly transitioned from international work to domestic projects.
With expertise in multiple professional disciplines, Ross has the unique ability to thrive in both the big-picture realm of large scale land-planning as well as the more detail oriented aspects of precision working drawings and golf course construction. His golf courses have received considerable international acclaim and have hosted numerous tournaments featuring some of the finest golfers in the world.
As an avid student of golf architecture history, Ross is a frequent reference for golf writers and researchers. He is also the author of The History of the American Golf Course.
During his teen years, Ross caddied at the Mountain View Grand Hotel and became a competitive junior golfer. He played in numerous junior, amateur and open events around New England, and was twice club champion at Maplewood Country Club – a historic Donald Ross course in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. Though his tournament days are behind him, Ross still maintains a single-digit handicap.
Ross and his wife, Kathy, have two sons and reside in southern New Hampshire.
